Over the last two decades, the number of cohabitants has doubled. Is it right for cohabitees with dependent children to be denied bereavement allowance?

On 23 August 2018 the High Court in Banfield v Campbell, 2018 EWHC 1943 Ch ruled in favour of a cohabitant’s claim for reasonable financial provision, pursuant to the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, after his partner of more than 20 years died.
