1898
The firm was originally established by H J Jefferies. The office was based in Alexandra Street, Southend-on-Sea.

1953
David Elman set up practice in London Road, Southend-on-Sea as Elman Arnold & Co.

1965
The two firms were practising separately. Elman Arnold merged with Lee Flint & Co was known as Elman Flint & Co.

1967
Elman Flint & Co moved from former premises to Metropolitan House, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea.

1969
Elman Flint & Co and H J Jefferies merge and the firm practices from Metropolitan House as Elman Flint Jefferies & Co.

1975
Elman Flint Jefferies & Co chose to streamline the firm’s name to Jefferies as it was well-known amongst the Southend community.

1988
The firm moved to Courtway House offices, Hamlet Court Road.

2006
The firm became a Limited Liability Partnership under the Jefferies Essex LLP, albeit still trading as Jefferies.

2011
On 8th May the offices were totally destroyed by a fire which started in the supermarket below the firm’s offices. With a clear contingency plan in place the firm quickly relocated to its new premises at Dencora Court, Tylers Avenue, Southend-on-Sea. Although the fire was devastating at the time – the firm remains incredibly grateful to its employees and the local community who worked together to defy the odds and re-build.

2015
The firm has grown from strength to strength and is continuing to expand in terms of legal services offerings and number of staff to support our increasing client base.

2017
The firm open their new Chelmsford office in Elizabeth House, to provide additional convenience to clients throughout Essex.

2018
The firm incorporates Chalkwell-based solicitors practice, Conway & Conway, following the retirement of Jeffrey and Andrew Conway, with Philip Conway joining the Jefferies team.
