Congratulations to Brooke Robdrup-Kilgour, who has recently been awarded The Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation.
The Children Law Accreditation is a recognised quality standard for practitioners representing children in children law proceedings. The accreditation covers all types of children law work and is recognised by the Legal Aid Agency. It’s a way for clients and professionals (such as guardians) to choose a qualified practitioner when a child needs representation.
According to Datalaw it symbolises ‘that you can handle all types of child related legal services, the Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation denotes that you are a specialist in your field of practice.’
In order to achieve the accreditation, the applicant must complete a 3-day intensive course and a very lengthy application setting out their experience representing clients in all aspects of children matters. Then, if they clear the application stage, they are invited to attend an interview with the Law Society where they are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and answer both general questions and those based on a case study which is provided on the day.
There is no requisite number of years PQE but generally speaking at least 3 years’ experience will be required to meet to the criteria (the application form specifically asks how many of each type of case have been undertaken in the last 3 years).
Brooke began the application process when she was 3 years PQE and was due to apply at the start of the pandemic, however due to restrictions all courses and interviews were delayed and as such the Law Society are only just catching up!
A huge congratulations to Brooke on this brilliant achievement, we are delighted to see another accreditation added to the Jefferies Family Law Team.
