The Personal Support Unit Annual Reception 2016

Posted on November 24, 2016

Tackling the minefield of the civil Court alone?

On 25th October 2016, Brooke Robdrup-Kilgour and Shannon Tomkins attended the Personal Support Unit Annual Reception 2016 at the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. This was a really enjoyable event for an extremely worthwhile charity that helps people often when they are at their most vulnerable.

Brooke Robdrup-Kilgour volunteered for the Personal Support Unit at the Royal Courts of Justice whilst studying and has maintained links with them since.

The Personal Support Unit assists people facing the civil court system alone without legal representation and helps to bridge the gap left by recent Legal Aid cuts and guide litigants in person through the Court system by providing reassurance and support. This is an ever-expanding charity and a more local Chelmsford branch has recently been opened.

Since the cuts to Legal Aid in 2014 many people have been left unsure as to whether they qualify for funding or not. If you are facing pending Family Court proceedings or are having problems and need advice, then contact Jefferies Family Department; our specialist family law solicitors will quickly be able to assess your eligibility and tell you whether you might be able to access Legal Aid.

If you are not eligible for Legal Aid, Jefferies offer a £95 fixed fee diagnostic appointment. This is the perfect option for someone who is thinking of issuing proceedings but doesn’t know where to start. For £95 you will receive up to an hour’s advice with a follow up report. You will also be provided with a comprehensive estimate of costs should you wish to instruct Jefferies to represent you in proceedings. Jefferies offer a wide range of fixed fee packages and can work to meet most budgets by ensuring their advice is tailored and focussed to your needs.

If you are facing Family Court proceedings or are considering issuing your own application, contact Jefferies Essex LLP for some no nonsense advice and guidance.
