Jefferies is proud to announce its support for Neurodivergent Safe Space, a registered charity based in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, dedicated to supporting neurodivergent teens and young adults aged 13+ who are experiencing mental health challenges.

The partnership was introduced through SAVS (Southend Association of Voluntary Services), whose work connecting local businesses with impactful community initiatives continues to make a meaningful difference across Southend.

“We are proud to support Neurodivergent Safe Space and the invaluable work they do locally in the field of neurodivergence and mental health,” said Sarah Mitchell, Managing Partner at Jefferies. “This cause is close to the hearts of many of our team members, and it was chosen by staff who felt a strong personal connection to the charity’s mission. We look forward to contributing to their efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive community here in Essex.”

Emma Jellett, Community Projects Manager as SAVS, says “SAVS are thrilled to have facilitated the partnership between Jefferies Solicitors and ND Safe Space. We love connecting businesses with local charities and we look forward to the amazing work they will do together in the community!”

Founded in 2023 by Jo Richardson, Neurodivergent Safe Space offers weekly clubs, outings, and peer support for young people with autism, ADHD, PDA, and other neurodivergent conditions. All trustees and volunteers are neurodivergent themselves, ensuring lived experience is at the heart of the charity’s approach.

Why This Matters

Recent data highlights the urgency of supporting neurodivergent youth:

  • 1 in 5 young people aged 8–25 in the UK had a probable mental health condition in 2023.
  • Among 17–24-year-olds, 22% were identified as having a probable mental health disorder.
  • Neurodivergent youth are twice as likely to experience mental health challenges compared to their neurotypical peers.
  • Girls and young women with autism are often underdiagnosed and face longer waits for support.

Neurodivergent Safe Space provides a vital lifeline for these young people, offering a safe, affirming environment where they can be themselves, connect with peers, and access support without judgement.
